Muyska Grey / Purple / Blue

Designed by Mae Engelgeer, the Muyska collection showcases the Dutch designer’s signature aesthetic of geometric, abstract patterns expressed through overlapping stripes and colours gently fading into each other. The asymmetric outlines of the design contribute to its contemporary aesthetic, mixing rounded and square corners.

The Muyska collection pays tribute to the Muisca people; a pre-hispanic civilisation that lived in the Altiplano Cundiboyacense, a high plateau in the Eastern Cordillera of the Colombian Andes. They were known as masterful weavers who elevated this craft to a form of language, becoming an integral part of their culture. Seen as valuable as gold, these artistic textiles were used to protect them from the cold but also to showcase their social status.

About the designer

Mae Engelgeer

Dutch textile designer Mae Engelgeer attended the Amsterdam Fashion Institute where she specialised in textile design, graduating in 2004. Later she was accepted to the prestigious Master Course in Applied Arts at the Sandberg Institute where she developed her first collection of textiles.

In 2014, Engelgeer opened her own studio in Amsterdam, working on product design and development, installations, and international collaborations. Mae Engelgeer’s work is characterised by a typical use of colour, geometric shapes and linear elements which is unmistakably hers. Her style has an open character that could be described as minimalistic with a playful twist. She cleverly combines craft, new technology and materials into beautiful textiles that enrich any home, without compromising on refinement or quality.
