Vintage Turkish Kars 14
Vintage Kars rugs originate from the province of Kars, in the North East Anatolian region of Turkey. Marked by a long history of sieges, Kars was largely occupied between the 10th and 20th centuries and only returned to Turkish rule in 1918.
Kars rugs often feature geometric medallions, some of which are similar to caucasian designs, with shapes resembling butterflies, stars or crosses. They typically have a dominant palette of browns, with softer colours such as oranges and pinks, distinguishing them from other Anatolian rugs.
Our Vintage Kars rugs are individually selected with a particular attention to design and condition with age ranging from 40 to 60 years old. Older pieces are sometimes meticulously repaired with new yarn colours, giving them a second life and a contemporary edge.
