Banded Rust
Designed by Sardinian creative practice Pretziada in collaboration with rug maker Mariantonia Urru, Banded Rust is a tribute to designer Eugenio Tavolara and visually refers to the contrasting designs he made for Sardinian weavers in the 1960’s.
The Banded rug is part of the Heritage Collection, an ongoing research project into classic designs and patterns in Sardinian weaving history. Adapting these designs to today’s production capabilities and colour schemes, the collection highlights the heritage of a territory rich in culture by reinterpreting traditional patterns and resuscitating local craft.
Mariantonia Urru established her workroom in Sardinia, Italy, in 1981, driven to produce textiles using long-established techniques – and to revive some that were nearly forgotten. With an enduring dedication to exploring different methods of construction, Mariantonia’s expertise in weaving and manufacturing leads to designs that reflect local heritage in a contemporary style. The results of Mariantonia’s mission are seen in our selection of her rugs and cushions, comprising a modern colour palette and reinvigorated traditional motifs.
