Antique Khotan 3
Antique Khotan rugs originate from the ancient city of Khotan, in the Central Asian region formerly known as East Turkestan or Samarkand. Its ideal location between China, Europe and the Mediterranean sea made it a bustling trading centre with strong textile production, notably in silk and rugs.
As a result, Khotan rugs were heavily influenced by the Asian and Persian cultures, merging Chinese motifs with a rich, earthy colour palette of reds, golds, browns and greens typically found in classic Persian rugs.
Antique Khotan rugs have a characteristic long and narrow shape with designs generally consisting of detailed borders, floral designs, vines and vases. Their craftsmanship and original designs gives them a unique yet timeless appeal.
