Afghan Barchi 2
Barchi carpets are handmade new in the west of Kabul, Afghanistan, though they have a beautiful vintage appearance. Barchi patterns reference Gabbeh carpets, centuries-old tribal rugs from neighbouring modern-day Iran; they have a high pile and shaggy knot. Traditionally Afghan sleeping rugs, they were made in this style from hand-spun heavy wool to shield their owners from icy cold nights. These contemporary renditions feature wonderful textures and colour gradations, from lively abrash effects over uniform piles to designs made up of contrasting woven and knotted areas.
Pure wool from the heartland of Afghanistan.
