Designed by Sardinian creative practice Pretziada in collaboration with rug maker Mariantonia Urru, Allusion is based on traditional Sardinian bed covers from the 1800’s. Always monochromatic and showcasing the traditional ‘Pibiones’ weaving technique, these textiles were covered with patterns involving various plants and animals.
The Allusion rug is part of the Heritage Collection, an ongoing research project into classic designs and patterns in Sardinian weaving history. Adapting these designs to today’s production capabilities and colour schemes, the collection highlights the heritage of a territory rich in culture by reinterpreting traditional patterns and resuscitating local craft.

Mariantonia Urru established her workroom in Sardinia, Italy, in 1981, driven to produce textiles using long-established techniques – and to revive some that were nearly forgotten. With an enduring dedication to exploring different methods of construction; Mariantonia’s expertise in weaving and manufacturing leads to designs that reflect local heritage in a contemporary style. The results of Mariantonia’s mission are seen in our selection of her rugs and cushions, comprising a modern colour palette and reinvigorated traditional motifs.

About the designers

Pretziada

Pretziada is a creative practice, based on the island of Sardinia, that promotes the heritage of a territory through words, photography and a collection of design objects made with local artisans.

Kyre Chenven, a native Californian, and Ivano Atzori, Milanese by birth, moved to the southwest corner of Sardinia four years ago to begin working with artisans on resuscitating local craft. Kyre worked for years as a set designer in New York, while Ivano comes from the world of graffiti and contemporary art.

Together they work symbiotically as cultural translators: writing and photographing the particularities of the island, reproposing new designs of classic pieces, producing original designs of international creatives and assisting the artisans to shape their future trajectory. Research and narration are at the heart of their practice.
